• DEI Summer Camps

From Aaron Thomas@1:342/200 to All on Thursday, June 05, 2025 13:37:48
I get automatic emails from my kids' school district and one of them was about "Summer camp opportunities."

The first thoughts that came to my mind:
    1) Why does the school care if the kids go to summer camp?
    2) Are the summer camps woke now?

So I checked with Google's Gemini for answers and it gave me precisely the information I was expecting:

Me: "Are summer camps woke now?"

Gemini: While the term "woke" is subjective and often used in a dismissive way, many summer camps are making efforts to address inclusivity, diversity, and equity. This includes reconsidering names, policies, and activities to avoid perpetuating harmful stereotypes or biases. Some camps are actively working to create more inclusive spaces for all campers, including those with disabilities and those who are not part of the traditional gender binary.

Here's an idea: Parents should ask summer camps about their "DEI initiatives" before filling out a check. "Do I want to pay $1000 per week for my white child to be discriminated against?"

Not that I disagree with your assessment, but why ask Gemini?

    Have a great day!

There's more to political life than Trump's tweets.

You're fixated on something ridiculous, and I can tell that you're addicted to the media. They take pleasure in the suffering of others. Don't stoop to their level.

This is yet another example of you accusing others of what you do. (Some people call it "projection.") It doesn't mean you're a bad person, it just means that you've got some growing to do and that this is where you have room for improvement.

It was convenient to give it a try since I was already in my web browser reading email. I don't agree with everything Gemini says but I appreciate how it confirmed my suspicion.

The problem with these people when it comes to growing and improving is recognizing they need to grow and improve.

I had a college prof who used to say "The first step in being smart is knowing what you are dumb at." I've seen the application of this many times over the decades as well at the anti-application: If you already think you know, you don't try to learn more.

That's solid advice. People can't grow until they begin to learn from their mistakes.

My guess is that the ruined public education system choked all desire to explore and learn more out of these people.

It probably played a role in it, but people need to learn about the word "ambition." They don't say it on TV that much, so that's part of Alex's struggle.

Well, he was indoctrinated, not educated.
