That sounds like a pretty good 286 setup. My first PC was a 12mhz 286, and I think it had 2MB of RAM.

I have one, but it has a "GATE A20" error. I think it might be due to corrosion, but all the affected traces seem to be intact from my testing.

Do you ever hang out anywhere in IRC? I've been looking forward to getting back into IRC chats but haven't found one with any activity at all...
Would love a tip from anyone still going there

I think there's an IRC bridge to MRC somewhere, MRC usually has a
handful of BBSers idling and chatting. Does anyone have info about the
    bridge?

    chatting. Does anyone have info
    about the
    bridge?

There is no more bridge in MRC. You can just join it from any of the many BBSes (probably the one you're on?).

I think people already recommended Libera. It just depends on the channels whether you'll find any activity or not.

What channels are you trying and what are you interested in discussing?

If you just want to see random activity, try like #Linux or one of the distribution channels for Debian,Ubuntu, or RedHat. There are ALWAYS people (careful, thousands) asking or answering questions there.

For more niche stuff, you might just have to hang out in the channel for a few hours/days. I idle in #Amiga and #C64, as an example.

I remember going into #Linux for a while and trying to engage with people in any subject and told on that the channel (and server) was specific about the treatment of FOSS OS and FOSS use and development...
